CONCEPTION OF ST ANNA, THE MOTHER OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

Troparion of ST ANNA — Tone 4
Today the bonds of barrenness are broken, / God has heard the prayers of Joachim and Anna. / He has promised them beyond all their hopes to bear the Maiden of God, / by whom the uncircumscribed One was born as mortal Man; / He commanded an angel to cry to her: / “Rejoice, O full of grace, / the Lord is with you!”
Troparion of ST ANNA — Tone 4
Today, the bonds of barrenness are loosed,/ for God, hearkening unto Joachim and Anna,/ doth manifestly promise them/ that they will beyond all expectation,/ give birth to the divine Maiden,/ from whom the Infinite One Himself, becoming man, shall be born./ And He commandeth the angels to cry unto her:/ Rejoice, thou who art full of grace,// the Lord is with thee!
Apolytikion of ST ANNA — Tone 4
Today the bonds of barrenness are loosed; for God listened to Joachim and Anna. He promised them - although it was beyond hope - that they should bear a divine child. From this child was born incarnate the Infinite God, Who told the Angel to cry to her: Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
ΣΎΛΛΗΨΙΣ ἉΓΊΑΣ ἌΝΝΗΣ Ἀπολυτίκιον — Ἦχος δ’
Σήμερον τῆς ἀτεκνίας δεσμὰ διαλύονται· τοῦ Ἰωακεὶμ γὰρ καὶ τῆς Ἄννης, εἰσακούων Θεός, παρ’ ἐλπίδα τεκεῖν αὐτούς, σαφῶς ὑπισχνεῖται Θεόπαιδα, ἐξ ἧς αὐτὸς ἐτέχθη ὁ ἀπερίγραπτος, βροτὸς γεγονώς, δι’ Ἀγγέλου κελεύσας βοῆσαι αὐτῇ· χαῖρε Κεχαριτωμένη, ὁ Κύριος μετὰ σοῦ.
ΣΎΛΛΗΨΙΣ ἉΓΊΑΣ ἌΝΝΗΣ Ἀπολυτίκιον — Ἦχος α’. Τὸν τάφον σου Σωτήρ
Βουλῇ τῇ θεϊκῇ, ἡ θεόκλητος Ἄννα, δεσμῶν στειρωτικῶν, λυτρωθεῖσα ἐν γήρᾳ, ἀξίως συνέλαβε, τὴν τὸν Λόγον κυήσασαν· ἣν θεώμενος, Ἰωακεὶμ ὁ θεόφρων, ἀνεβόησε· Τὶς ἀνυμνήσει Οἰκτιρμόν, βυθὸν τῆς προνοίας σου.

Thou wast miraculously preserved from the ocean's fury/ and being sustained by the hand of God,/ thou didst devote thyself to His service, O Hierarch Budoc./ Being showered with both temporal and spiritual honours both in Armagh and in Dol,/ thou didst labour to win souls for Christ,/ therefore, we implore thine aid,/ begging Christ our God that He will save our souls.

Today creation celebrates Anna's conception which was effected by God./ For she conceived the Maiden who conceived the Word/ Who is beyond all words.

Today the universe rejoices, / for Anna has conceived the Theotokos through God’s dispensation, / for she has brought forth the one who is to bear the ineffable Word!

Today the whole world doth celebrate Anna's conceiving,/ which was brought about by God,// for she gave birth unto her who ineffably gave birth unto the Word.

Today the world rejoices in the conception of Anna, wrought by God. For she bore the One who beyond comprehension conceived the Word of God.

Ἑορτάζει σήμερον, ἡ οἰκουμένη, τὴν τῆς Ἄννης σύλληψιν, γεγενημένην ἐκ Θεοῦ· καὶ γὰρ αὐτὴ ἀπεκύησε, τὴν ὑπὲρ λόγον τὸν Λόγον κυήσασαν.

Τὴν θεοχάλκευτον λυχνίαν καὶ ἑπτάφωτον
Τῇ θεϊκῇ ἐπαγγελίᾳ ἐκομίσασθε
Ἰωακείμ τε καὶ Ἄννα μετ’ εὐφροσύνης.
Ἀλλ’ ὡς θεῖοι τοῦ Παντάνακτος Προπάτορες
Ἀπὸ πάσης ἡμᾶς ῥύσασθε κακώσεως
Τοὺς κραυγάζοντας, χαίροις ζεῦγος θεόλεκτον.
