Celebrating the memory/ of Thy prophet Nahum O Lord,// through him do we entreat Thee, save Thou our souls.

Troparion of Prophet NAHUM ― Tone 3
O Prophet Nahum, thou didst shine forth in the Law/ and proclaim the consolation of grace from of old in the Spirit./ Even so, by appearing unto men,/ God the Word gladdened mortal nature./ Intercede with the compassionate Trinity to grant us His great mercy.

Apolytikion of Prophet NAHUM ― Tone 3

Νόμῳ ἔλαμψας, προαναγγέλλων, τὰς τῆς χάριτος, Ναοὺμ Προφῆτα, ὁμωνύμως παρακλήσεις ἐν Πνεύματι• δι’ ὧν ὁ Λόγος οὐσίαν τὴν βρότειον, ἐπιφανεὶς τοῖς ἀνθρώποις κατηύφρανεν· ὅθεν πρέσβευε, Τριάδι τῇ πανοικτίρμονι, δωρήσασθαι ἡμῖν τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

From the wealth of God-like faith/ thou didst distribute thy riches to the poor, O Philaret;/ thy life was adorned with compassion/ and thou didst glorify the Giver of Mercy./ Beseech Him to have compassion and to be merciful to those who praise thee.

From the wealth of God-like faith, thou didst distribute thy riches to the poor, O Philaret; thy life was adorned with compassion, and thou didst glorify the Giver of Mercy. Beseech Him to have compassion and to be merciful to those who praise thee.

From the wealth of your faith in God, / You distributed your riches to the poor, O Philaret. / Your life was adorned with compassion / And you glorified the Giver of mercy. / Implore him to have compassion and mercy on those who praise you!

Ἅγιος ΦΙΛΆΡΕΤΟΣ ὁ ἘΛΕΉΜΩΝ Ἀπολυτίκιον — Ἦχος γ’. Θείας πίστεως
Θείας πίστεως, περιουσίᾳ, διεσκόρπισας, τοῖς δεομένοις, τὸν προσόντα σοι πλοῦτον Φιλάρετε· καὶ εὐσπλαγχνίᾳ κοσμήσας τὸν βίον σου, τὸν χορηγόν του ἐλέους ἐδόξασας· Ὃν ἱκέτευε, δοθῆναι τοῖς εὐφημοῦσί σε, ῥανίδα οἰκτιρμῶν καὶ θεῖον ἔλεος.

Neither the desolation of the fens, nor the depth of thy humility could hide the light of thy virtues, whereby thou becamest a lamp unto the faithful, O Botolph our righteous Father. Wherefore, we entreat thee: do thou also enlighten us who venerate thy blessed memory.

Illumined by the Spirit, / your heart was a vessel of illustrious prophecy, / seeing far-off things as though they were present.

Ὡς πυρσὸς ἀκοίμητος Ναοὺμ Προφῆτα, φρυκτωρεῖς ἐν πέρασι, δι’ αἰνιγμάτων ἱερῶν, τὴν τῶν μελλόντων ἀλήθειαν, ὧν τὰς ἐκβάσεις ὁρῶντες τιμῶμέν σε.

Thou didst possess the spirit of Job in temptations,/ and compassionately distribute thy wealth to the poor./ Thou wast a living fountain of almsgiving/ and by thy manner of life thou dost gladden those who cry:/ O Philaret servant of Christ, rejoice.

Τοῦ Ἰὼβ κτησάμενος, ἐν πειρασμοῖς τὴν ἀνδρείαν, τοῖς πτωχοῖς διένειμας, ὡς συμπαθὴς τὸν σὸν πλοῦτον· ὤφθης γὰρ, τῆς εὐσπλαγχνίας ἔμψυχος βρύσις, νάμασι, τῶν θείων τρόπων σου ἱλαρύνων, τοὺς ἐκ πόθου σοι βοῶντας· χαίροις θεράπον Χριστοῦ Φιλάρετε.

The glory of the just, the protector of Boston, the man of mighty prayer, our belov'd Father Botolph, entreateth the Saviour that He show mercy to all of us. Let us honour him with thankful praise, O ye faithful; let us imitate his conversation and virtues, that God hear his prayers for us.


Προφήτης ΝΑΟΎΜ Μεγαλυνάριον
Φρόνημα οὐράνιον αἰσχηκώς, οὐρανίου δόξης, ἐχρημάτισας θεωρός, βίῳ τε τὸν λόγον, Ναοὺμ ἐπισημαίνων· διὸ σὲ ὡς Προφήτην, θεῖον γεραίρομεν.

Ἅγιος ΦΙΛΆΡΕΤΟΣ ὁ ἘΛΕΉΜΩΝ Μεγαλυνάριον
Χαίροις τῶν πενήτων ὁ προμηθεύς, καὶ τῶν δυστυχούντων, ἀντιλήπτωρ καὶ βοηθός· χαίροις ὁ ἐν οἴκτῳ, τὸν Λόγον θεραπεύσας, Φιλάρετε τρισμάκαρ, Δικαίων σύσκηνε.

Megalynarion of ST BOTOLPH
Boston doth exult on this holy day, for thy deeds, O wise one, are gone up as most fragrant myrrh and sweet smelling incense before the throne of Christ God, O Botolph, our blest Father and teacher in all truth.
