THIRD FINDING OF THE PRECIOUS HEAD OF THE HOLY AND GLORIOUS PROPHET, FORERUNNER AND BAPTIST JOHN
Troparion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 4
Christ has revealed thy head to us, O Prophet and Forerunner/ as a divine treasure hidden in the earth./ We come with hymns to honour its discovery,/ and praise the Saviour Who saves us from corruption,/ through thy intercessions.
Apolytikion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 4
Christ God hath revealed to us thy truly ven'rable head as a divine treasure that had been concealed in the earth, O Prophet and Forerunner. Wherefore, as we gather on the feast of its finding, with our hymns inspired of God, we praise Christ the Saviour, Who by thy mighty prayers saveth us from every kind of harm.
Troparion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 4
As a divine treasure hidden in the ground / Was your head revealed to us by Christ, O prophet and forerunner. / We have gathered in commemoration of this finding / With inspired hymns of praise to the Savior, / Who saves us from corruption through your prayers!
Troparion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 4
Like a divine treasure hidden in the earth,/ hath Christ revealed thy head to us, O prophet and forerunner;/ wherefore, assembling for the feast of its discovery,/ let us all chant divinely sounding hymns to the Savior// Who saveth us from corruption by his supplications.

Kontakion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 2
Since we have obtained thy head as a most sacred rose from out of the earth, O Forerunner of grace divine, we receive sure healing in every hour, O Prophet of God the Lord; for again, now as formerly, thou preachest repentance unto all the world.
Kontakion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 4
By giving your venerable head to a sinful woman, / Herod broke the law of God. / But we behold it and cry out for joy, / And say to you, O forerunner: / Pray to the Lord that He may grant mercy to us all!
Kontakion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 6
The shining pillar on earth, the Forerunner, lamp of the spiritual Sun,/ has revealed his radiant, holy head to the world./ He sanctifies those who venerate it and who faithfully cry:/ O wise Baptist of Christ, save us all.
Kontakion to ST JOHN THE BAPTIST ― Tone 6 "Having fulfilled the dispensation concerning us..."
The splendid and divine pillar in the world, the luminary of the Sun, the forerunner,/ showing forth his radiant and divine head to the ends of the earth,/ doth sanctify therewith those who bow down before it with faith and cry out:// O all-wise baptizer of Christ, save us all!

PRAYER TO SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST
O Baptist of Christ,
Holy Forerunner, last of the prophets, first of the martyrs,
instructor of fasters and desert-dwellers,
teacher of purity and close friend of Christ!
I pray thee; I run to thee. Do not reject me from thy protection,
but lift me up who am fallen in many sins;
renew my soul by repentance, as by a second Baptism.
Purify me, corrupted by sins, and compel me to enter therein where no corruption can enter: into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Amen.
Pray unto God for me O holy God-pleasers, for I fervently flee unto thee, the speedy helpers and intercessor for my soul.
