ST JOHN THE RUSSIAN ― THE NEW CONFESSOR
HOLY HIEROMARTYR HELLADIOS
ST MELANGELL
Hieromartyr THERAPON the Bishop of Sardis
Venerable Father BEDE
7th Sunday of Pascha: The FATHERS OF THE FIRST ECUMENICAL COUNCIL // 2019 //
Troparion of ST JOHN THE RUSSIAN ― Tone 1
Russia thy fatherland boasts of thy birth, O John,/ and Asia rejoices in thy relics:/ carried thither as a prisoner and enduring great hardships,/ as an ascetic thou hast become God's initiate./ Glory to Christ Who has glorified thee; glory to Him Who has made thee wondrous;/ glory to Him Who has given thee to us as a protector.

Troparion of ST JOHN THE RUSSIAN ― Tone 4
He Who called thee from earth to heaven/ keeps thy body unharmed even after death, O righteous John./ Thou wast taken to Asia as a prisoner/ and didst win Christ as thy friend./ Beseech Him that our souls may be saved.

Apolytikion of ST JOHN THE RUSSIAN ― Tone 4
He that hath called thee from earth unto the heavenly abodes, doth even after thy death keep thy body unharmed, O righteous one; for thou wast carried off as a prisoner to Asia, wherein also, O John, thou didst win Christ as thy friend. Wherefore, do thou beseech Him that our souls be saved.

Apolytikion of ST HELLADIOS ― Tone 4
As a sharer of the ways and a successor to the throne of the Apostles, O inspired of God, thou foundest discipline to be a means of ascent to divine vision. Wherefore, having rightly divided the word of truth, thou didst also contest for the Faith even unto blood, O Hieromartyr Alladius. Intercede with Christ our God that our souls be saved.

Troparion of ST HELLADIOS ― Tone 5
The hosts of heaven,/ marvelling at thy steadfast courage,/ were astonished by thine endurance, O blessed one./ For though in a mortal body/ thou didst shame the bodiless by the power of the Cross,/ O Hierarch Helladios,/ defender of godliness and invincible soldier of Christ.

Troparion of ST MELANGELL ― Tone 8
Preferring the rigours of monasticism to worldly status and marriage, 0 pious Melangell,/ though wast fifteen years on a rock, emulating the example of the Syrian Stylites./ Wherefore, 0 Saint, pray to God that He will give us strength to serve Him as He wills,/ that we may be found worthy of His great mercy.

• • •

Troparion of ST THERAPON of Sardis ― Tone 4
By sharing in the ways of the Apostles, you became a successor to their throne. / Through the practice of virtue, / you found the way to divine contemplation, O inspired one of God; / by teaching the word of truth without error, / you defended the Faith, even to the shedding of your blood. / Hieromartyr Therapon, entreat Christ God to save our souls.

• • •

Troparion of ST BEDE ― Tone 8
Throughout the dark years of thy times, O Bede, thou didst water the English lands and all the West with outpourings of grace; and like a skilled sower thou didst cast the seed of divine knowledge far and wide over the fields of thy Master, where, springing forth, it hath borne fruit for Him an hundredfold. Wherefore, having thus acquired boldness before Him, O venerable one, pray thou unceasingly that our souls be saved.

The FATHERS OF THE FIRST ECUMENICAL COUNCIL ― Apolytikion ― Plagal Tone 4
You are greatly glorified, O Christ our God, who established our Fathers as luminaries upon the earth, and through them led us all to the true Faith. O Most compassionate, glory to You.

Kontakion of ST JOHN THE RUSSIAN ― Tone 4
Today we remember thine illustrious contests,/ O righteous Father John./ They gladden the souls of those who venerate thee with reverence and faith.

Kontakion of ST JOHN THE RUSSIAN ― Tone 4
The all-holy mem'ry of thy splendid contests on this day is come to us, and it doth gladden and rejoice the souls of all them that honour thee with faith and rev'rence, O most righteous Father John.

• • •

Kontakion of ST HELLADIOS ― Tone 8
Thou didst blossom like a fruitful olive tree,/ bearing fruit of holy struggles for those who look for God's mercy./ As thou art a martyr and a glorious light of the Faith,/ guide us to divine knowledge, for we cry to thee: Rejoice, O Father Helladios.

Kontakion of ST HELLADIOS ― Plagal Tone 4
Since thou didst flourish like a fair and fruitful olive tree, thou as an athlete that contended well and won the crown showest kindness unto all that seek grace and mercy. Do thou guide us unto knowledge of the Most High God as a Martyr and bright luminary of the Faith; for we cry to thee: Rejoice, O Father Helladius.

• • •

Kontakion of ST BEDE ― Tone 8
Thou wast like a radiant lamp shining forth from Northumbria, O venerable Bede, shedding the light of divine knowledge upon the realms of the English, and enlightening with thy godly wisdom all the lands of the West. Wherefore, Christ thy Master hath bestowed upon thee rich rewards in paradise, where in gladness thou dwellest forever with the saints and angels.

Ἄστρον ἐξ Ἑῴας ὤφθης λαμπρόν, μάκαρ Ἰωάννη, καταυγάζον τοὺς εὐσεβεῖς, χάριτι θαυμάτων, καὶ νῆσον τῆς Εὐβοίας, τῷ σῷ καθαγιάζεις, λειψάνῳ Ἅγιε.
