Having conquered the crafty one by thine asceticism/ thou didst become a rule and model to thy disciples/ by thy holy life, O Father Nikon./ With them thou didst contend for the Faith in the West./ You have all attained to glory in heaven.

By your ascetic way of life / you conquered the crafty one, Holy Father Nikon. / By virtue of your holy life you became a rule and model to your disciples, / and with them you struggled for the Faith in the West. / You have all attained glory in heaven.

Ὁ Θεός τῶν Πατέρων ἡμῶν ὁ ποιών ἀεί μεθ᾽ ῆμῶν κατά τήν σήν ἐπιείκειαν, μή ἀποστήσῃς τό ἔλεός σου ἀφ᾽ ἡμῶν· ἀλλά ταῖς αὐτῶν ἱκεσίαις, ἐν εἰρήνῃ κυβέρνησον τήν ζωήν ἡμῶν.

Νικήσας τὸν δόλιον, ἀσκητικαῖς ἀγωγαῖς, κανὼν ἐχρημάτισας, τῶν σῶν κλεινῶν φοιτητῶν, ἀκρότητι βίου σου· ὅθεν σὺν τούτοις ἅμα, γεγονὼς ἐν τῇ Δύσει, ἔδυσας ἐν ἀθλήσει, σὺν αὐτοῖς Πάτερ Νίκων, μεθ' ὧν καὶ κατεφοίτησας αἴγλῇ τῇ ἄνωθεν.

Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received the prize of the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons’ strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.

You were trained beforehand in asceticism on Athos, and trampled upon the arrows of the enemy, and put on the Cross as armor, O most-blessed one, heading towards the contest, enduring manfully, and putting to death those who war against the faith. O Venerable Martyr Luke, by the noetic sword you were crowned with dual garlands.

Thou O Basil didst witness unto death to the glory of virginity, and having been cast into the darkness of a swamp by thy cruel tormentors, thou didst ascend to the heights and shine forth with the glory of the Eternal Light, wherefore we cry to thee rejoicing, glory to Christ Who has glorified thee, glory to Him Who has made thee wondrous, glory to Him Who worketh healings for all through thee.

When Thy glorious Disciples were enlightened at the supper by the feet washing, then the impious Judas was darkened with the disease of avarice, and he delivered Thee, the Just Judge, to the lawless judges. See, O lover of money, this man through money came to hang himself. Flee the insatiable desire which dared to do such things to the Master. O Lord, Who art good towards all, glory to Thee.

Of like discipline with ascetics, and rivaling holy Athletes in zeal,/ O steadfast and righeous Martyrs, you were offered to the Lord through martyrdom./ For you had as your sure guide the glorious Nikon./ Fighting together with him you sang: Alleluia.

Your bright contest, Venerable Martyr of the Lord, with yearning we praise, with odes and praises, for you rebuked the error of the Agar, and you stood as a brave trophy of victory against invisible enemies, for which you were worthily crowned by Christ.

And since thou hast been thrice-crowned by our Saviour, free us from passions, who cry to thee: Rejoice Holy Martyr Basil, radiant light of virginity.
