THE HOLY TEN MARTYRS OF CRETE

Troparion of the Forefeast ― Tone 4
Make ready, Bethlehem, Eden has been opened to all./ Prepare Ephratha, for the Tree of Life has blossomed in the cave from the Virgin./ Her womb was a spiritual paradise whence came the Divine Plant. /If we eat it we shall live and not die like Adam./ Christ is born to raise up the image that of old had fallen.
Troparion of the Holy Ten Martyrs of Crete — Tone 3
Let us honour Crete who brought forth these flowers,/ boughs of martyrs, pearls of Christ./ They shamed the thousandfold power of demons/ although only ten in number./ They were crowned as Christ's valiant martyrs.
Apolytikion of the Holy Ten Martyrs of Crete — Tone 3
Let us now honor Crete, that land most marvelous, which sprouted forth the ten flowers revered by all, those goodly pearls of Christ our God, those verdant boughs of the Martyrs; for although they were but ten, the most blessed men put to shame the ten thousand armored host of the wicked demonic ranks. And hence, they have received crowns of glory as stout-hearted Martyrs of Christ the Savior.

Let us show forth our great praise of Crete / That brought forth these precious Christians: the pearls of Christ! / And these blessed ten, the offspring of martyrs, / Who though few in number, overcame all the deceits of powerful demons. / Therefore these martyrs of Christ have been crowned with victory!

In their sufferings, O Lord,/ Thy martyrs received imperishable crowns from Thee our God;/ for, possessed of Thy might,/ they set at nought the tormentors and crushed the feeble audacity of the demons.// By their supplications save Thou our souls.
Ἅγιοι 10 Μάρτυρες Ἀπολυτίκιον — Ἦχος γ’. Τὴν ὡραιότητα
Κρήτης τὰ εὔοσμα, ἄνθη τιμήσωμεν, τὰ διαπνέοντα, ὀσμὴν τὴν ἔνθεον, Θεόδουλον καὶ Ζωτικόν, Γελάσιον Σατορνῖνον, Εὔπορον Εὐάρεστον, Ἀγαθόποδα Πόμπιον, Εὐνικιανὸν ὁμοῦ, Βασιλείδην τε ἔνδοξον, βοῶντες πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὁμοφρόνως· χαῖρε Δεκὰς ἡ τῶν Μαρτύρων.

Thou wast chosen by God to be shepherd and herald of His Church,/ and to teach repentance to the fallen./ By thy prayers thou didst reveal the demons' deceits/ and thy countenance shone like Moses'./ O Father Niphon, pray to Christ our God for those who honour thee.

Today the Virgin is coming to the cave/ to give birth to the eternal Word./ Rejoice at the message, O earth;/ with the Angels and Shepherds give glory/ to Him Who was willing to be seen as a Child/ while remaining God throughout all ages.

The holy struggle of the Martyrs shines as brightly as the morning star./ It has shone on Him Who was born in a cave,/ Whom the Virgin seedlessly conceived.

The noble struggle of the martyrs / Shines forth as the morning star, / Shedding brilliant light for us / On the One who was born in the cave / To whom the Virgin gave birth without human seed.

A morning-star hath shone forth,/ the honorable contest of the martyrs,/ illumining for us beforehand Him Who is born in the cave,// to Whom the Virgin gave birth without seed.

Shining like a morning star, the Martyrs' contest, worthy of all reverence, hath shown beforehand unto us Him that was born in a lowly cave, and Whom the Virgin conceived without seed of man.

Ἑωσφόρος ἔλαμψεν ἡ τῶν Μαρτύρων, σεβασμία ἄθλησις, προκαταυγάζουσα ἡμῖν, τὸν ἐν Σπηλαίῳ τικτόμενον, ὃν ἡ Παρθένος ἀσπόρως ἐκύησεν.

Thou didst subdue the flesh by fear of God/ and didst soar to the heights of knowledge./ Thou didst attain to thy desire, O blessed Niphon./ Intercede to Christ our God for all who honour thee.

Let all the faithful honor with hymns and praise Crete's Ten Martyrs of Christ, who valiantly endured the tortures of the tyrants and shed their blood at the hands of the lawless.

Ὅμιλος θεόλεκτος καὶ σεπτός, πίστει συνημμένος, καὶ ἀγάπῃ εἰλικρινεῖ, ὤφθησαν ἐν Κρήτῃ, οἱ Δέκα Ἀθλοφόροι, ἐχθρῶν τὰς μυριάδας καταπαλαίσαντες.
