HOLY MARTYRS OF EDESSA GURIA, SHAMUNA, AND HABIB THE DEACON

Troparion of Martyrs ― Tone 5
Wise Guria and Shamuna are praised today with Deacon Habib,/ they fill the faithful with joy and their contests are the boast of Edessa./ They trampled down error by their words,/ and by their deeds became martyrs and wonderworkers./ They pray for us to the Lover of mankind.
Apolytikion of Martyrs ― Tone 4
Equal in number to the supremely divine Trinity, indeed the renowned Gurias, Habibus and Samonas; they were divinely inspired before the ungodly in their confession, at the same time contesting through the storm and emerging without harm, steer us also to a place of refuge away from the storm.

O Christ God, Thou hast given us an impregnable rampart/ in the miracles of Thy holy martyrs./ Through their supplications destroy Thou the councils of the heathen/ and strengthen the scepters of kingdoms,// in that Thou art good and lovest mankind.
Ἅγιοι ΓΟΥΡΊΑΣ, ΣΑΜΩΝᾶΣ καὶ ἌΒΙΒΟΣ Ἀπολυτίκιον ― Ἦχος δ’. Ταχὺ προκατάβαλε
Τριάδος ἰσάριθμοι, τῆς Ὑπερθέου σαφῶς, Γουρίας, καὶ Ἄβιβος, καὶ Σαμωνᾶς ὁ κλεινός, ἐνθέως ὑπάρχοντες, ταύτην τοῖς ἀσεβέσιν, ὡμολόγησαν ἅμα, ἄθλων τὴν τρικυμίαν, ἀβλαβῶς διελθόντες. Καὶ νῦν ἡμᾶς κυβερνῶσιν, ὅρμον πρὸς ἄκλυστον.

Τὰ θαύματα τῶν Ἁγίων σου Mαρτύρων, τεῖχος ἀκαταμάχητον ἡμῖν δωρησάμενος, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, ταῖς αὐτῶν ἱκεσίαις, βουλὰς ἐθνῶν διασκέδασον, τῆς βασιλείας τὰ σκῆπτρα κραταίωσον, ὡς μὸνος ἀγαθὸς καὶ φιλάνθρωπος.

Having become a stranger on earth, / you reached the heavenly homeland, venerable Father Paisius. / You taught the faithful to lift up their minds to God, / crying out to Him with all their hearts: / “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner!”

You protect those in temptation with grace from on high, O holy Martyrs./ You saved a girl from bitter death/ and are the glory of Edessa and the joy of all the world.
Kontakion of Martyrs ― Tone 2
You received grace from on high, all-praised martyrs, and you intercede for those in the midst of temptations. Therefore, holy ones, you freed a young woman from bitter death. You are indeed the glory of Edessa and the joy of the world.

Having received grace from on high, O most lauded martyrs,/ ye intercede for those amid temptations;/ wherefore, ye delivered the maiden from a bitter death, O holy ones;// for ye are truly the glory of Edessa and the joy of the world.

Ἐξ ὕψους σοφοί, τὴν χάριν κομισάμενοι, τῶν ἐν πειρασμοῖς, προΐστασθε πανεύφημοι· διὸ κόρην Ἅγιοι, ἐκ θανάτου πικροῦ ἐρρύσασθε· ὑμεῖς γὰρ ὄντως ὑπάρχετε, Ἐδέσσης ἡ δόξα, καὶ τοῦ κόσμου χαρά.

Like a much-laboring bee, you were an elect zealot of the monastic life, / supplying our souls with the writings of the Fathers through which you guide us on the path of salvation. / Therefore we cry out to you: “Rejoice, truly-wise Paisius, / for through you the tradition of spiritual elders has been restored to us!”
