BEHEADING OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST
ST THEODORA OF THESSALONICA
ST ARKADIOS the Bishop of Arsinoe and Wonderworker
ST JOSEPH Samakos the Sanctified
Troparion of St JOHN the Baptist — Tone 2
The memory of the just is celebrated with hymns of praise/ but the Lord's testimony is enough for thee, O Forerunner,/ for thou wast shown to be more wonderful than the Prophets/ since thou wast granted to baptize in the running waters / Him Whom thou didst proclaim./ Then having endured great suffering for the Truth,/ Thou didst rejoice to bring, even to those in hell/ the good tidings that God Who had appeared in the flesh/ takes away the sin of the world/ and grants us the great mercy.
Troparion of St JOHN the Baptist — Tone 2
The memory of the righteous is celebrated with hymns of praise, / but the Lord’s testimony is sufficient for you, O Forerunner. / You were shown in truth to be the most honorable of the prophets, / for you were deemed worthy to baptize in the streams of the Jordan Him whom they foretold. / Therefore, having suffered for the truth with joy, / you proclaimed to those in hell God who appeared in the flesh, / who takes away the sin of the world, / and grants us great mercy.
Troparion of St THEODORA — Tone 4
Thou didst deny thyself, O Theodora, and take up thy cross as an ascetic./ Wherefore thou didst find rest in the light and joy of heaven./ Pray to Christ our God for those who honour thee.
Apolytikion of St ARKADIOS — Tone 4
As a shepherd most sacred, of Arsinoe you were perceived, you made Cyprus bright, by the light of your virtue, all-blessed Arkadios. Wherefore by the Lord, you were deservedly glorified, showing yourself to be a companion, of all the saints, together with whom do not cease to intercede, on behalf of our souls.
Apolytikion of St JOSEPH — Tone 1
The offspring of Crete, the pride of Zakynthos and the glory and praise of the Fathers: let the faithful honor Joseph of blessed memory with hymns, whose body the Holy Trinity honors with unspeakable glory, and which has been preserved incorruptible. Glory be to Him who has sanctified him. Glory be to Him who has crowned him. Glory be to Him who has proclaimed him a guardian and has made him an unmercenary physician to those who suffer.
●
Kontakion of St JOHN the Baptist — Tone 5
The beheading of the glorious Forerunner/ was a divine dispensation/ that the coming of the Savior might be preached to those in hell./ Lament then, Herodias,/ that thou didst demand a murder/ despising the law of God and eternal life.
Kontakion of St JOHN the Baptist — Tone 5
The glorious beheading of the Forerunner, / became an act of divine dispensation, / for he preached to those in hell the coming of the Savior. / Let Herodias lament, for she entreated lawless murder, / loving not the law of God, nor eternal life, / but that which is false and temporal.
Kontakion of St THEODORA — Tone 8
Fragrant myrrh streams from thy relics like the river of Eden;/ it sanctifies thy city and all the world, O Theodora./ Wherefore the faithful cry to thee: Rejoice.
Kontakion of St JOSEPH — Tone 4
You are the advocate for the faithful and you deliver them from all suffering through your intercession to God, Joseph, renowned by all, the pride and glory of the Venerable Ones.

Megalynarion of St JOSEPH
Rejoice, brilliant progeny of Crete. Rejoice, inviolate treasure of the Church. Rejoice, guardian and protector of Zakynthos, thrice-blessed Joseph, the pride of the faithful.
